is it naïve to hope?

to seek the best in all

even as hope is shattered

time and time again

on barren cliffs of self-concern

destroyed and shouted down

so often defeated it begs to die

rather than fight through layers of scar

rather than sing into resounding silence

to show its gentle grace once more

is it naïve to hope?

to see the wonder in all

knowing that all is of God

and He is a God of wonder!

NO!

hope, despite the hurt,

is God’s relentless voice

silent and insistent

comfort to a world of hate
