this is not what makes me proud

that red and white give way to more

and on this day of a great land’s birth

our greatest stand with depravity

yet will I take pride in this

that one and one can often meet

drink coffee, eat bread, be as friends

despite their stand in depravity

and even more of this am proud

that friendship grow and flourish strong

arise from such polluted ground

proving Grace will trump depravity

and greatest pride take I in this

that Grace bent low to rescue me

washed clean of mud and sticking slime

even as I loved depravity
