man his greatest attempt at perfecting
that thing of subtle beauty
expends prodigious amounts of energy
in the making of it for himself
and possibly even more than that
in the praising of it to others
only to have all his efforts rebuked
by this statement of unshakable power:
“And God said…
…and there was”
by the power of His word alone creating
all the vast substantive source
of even our smallest fabrication
and for all our countless years of investigation
new wonders we see each time again we look
beneath the smallest work of man
God’s hand becomes apparent
His depth of thought and intricacy of creation
extending beyond our greatest capability
rendering man his highest work
the subtlety of a brick
After reading part of the introduction to
Alexander Hislop’s “The Two Babylons.”
