That’s Not How…

that’s not what

you wear

alone

before a stranger’s eye

you need a man           

with you as with God

lest you advertise

what is not yours to sell

it is his alone

God gives you alone

to love alone

wear it behind a door

when rings adorn your hands

that you may give

what belongs to both

Saw several women this week with skirts way too short.

Have they no idea what thoughts the man must fight

who sees them walking by?
