they’re saying “Net Zero”

they’re saying “Carbon Neutral”

and I’ve got to smile (though sadly)

at such optimistic naiveté

for the working of the world

that trade which raises one

holds another down as far

that the breath one breathes

cannot by another be undone

bargain or no bargain

deal or no deal

nets can’t ever be zero

carbon can’t ever be neutral
