“Clergy say Jesus’ teachings leave Christians

no choice but to resist ICE.”

oh, the poor, blind, sad irony

to think Jesus taught resistance

He who came to rescue rebels

He who never threw any stone

He who ever encouraged peace

He who let His own life be taken

His words encourage resistance?

really? I am gobsmacked!

could He who taught us this

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I say to you, do not show opposition against an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other toward him also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak also. Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may prove yourselves to be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

actually have condoned resistance?

like in the angry years of COVID

try as I might, I cannot see it

resistance is as foreign to Jesus

as midnight is to noonday

and if you can doubt me

look at His early disciples

who allowed themselves arrested

who allowed themselves persecuted

who allowed themselves despoiled

who allowed themselves murdered

were these practising resistance?

when asked, what did Jesus say

summarized the whole entire law

but to love God with all one is

and to love others as ourselves

every other thing, Jesus said

hangs upon these great loves

so, yes, love and protect everyone

from every kind of evil thing

but

love not only those outside the system

love also those inside the system

as Christ Himself both said and did
