I am tempted at times to throw it all away

just run off, leave my history far behind me

take up new friends, loves, lives, adventures

and smile unfearing into the storm of days

and smile head-shaking into the dust of dreams

knowing how great a loss would be that gain

history lives, has its own reasons for being

and I, yet a part of it, rejoice again my trace
