It Was Worth It

there were those who have

disdained

those of us who wore

our masks

there were those who have

rebuked

those of us who took

the vaccine

I want to be angry

but I can't be

I can only think this

if my mask

has helped even one stay alive

it was worth it

if the vaccine

has helped even one stay healthy

it was worth it

it was worth

every fogged up lens

it was worth

every bandaged arm

it was worth

every look of scorn

it was worth

every word of disdain

it was worth

every day at home

it was worth it

it was all worth it

every bit of it was worth it

if only one could be helped

by the ridicule I received

that one was worth it

if only one could be saved

by the discomfort I took on

that one was worth it

they were worth every minute of it

and I would do all of it all over again

in a heartbeat, without a moment's hesitation

and I would thank and praise my God

that such a thing were even possible
