Misapprehending Wrath and Love

you do not understand

supposing wrath estranged from love

instead of closely bound

were not wrath

love could show no grace

were not love

wrath would have no force

extending upwards

your miscomprehension

toward heaven

in ignorance boldly claim

that the wrath of the Old

denies the love of the New

unknowing that within them dwells

the One Who bore Gods wrath

Who also shares Gods love,

wrath and love in One subsumed

despair and hope in hand depend

on Holy wrath with love suffused

and rest alone upon the Son
