the book of Daniel is largely assumed mythological

and, even as a Christian, I can see reasons why it is

its unusual to see such fantastic things as Daniel saw

within the realm of factual, historical accounts

but as a Christian, I cannot but see Daniel as truth

one cannot discredit Daniel, and not discredit Ezekiel

Ezekiel, who was told by God of Daniels righteousness

like that of both Noah and Job (both also seen as myth)

yet Ezekiel cannot be discounted, is firmly rooted in time

and more, both Noah and Daniel are referred to by Jesus

you cannot discount either without also discounting Christ

who is even more firmly rooted in time than was Ezekiel

but getting back to the book of Daniel itself

if it were truly written, as some suppose, around 150 BC

for purposes of encouraging the Hebrews of that day

its own internal testimony would not condone it

Daniels vision of the seventy weeks would end wrong

with a promised hope arriving late or not at all

and his vision of the kingdoms would also end wrong

with iron teeth and relentless feet with no hope of rescue

either Daniel, the book, is as it owns itself to be

on the testimony of Jesus, Ezekiel and history

or the entire book is a pointless fabrication

pointing to nothing, offering nothing to grasp

with history, and Jesus Himself being proven false

“Even though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job were in its midst, by their own righteousness they could only save themselves,” declares the Lord God. “If I were to cause vicious animals to pass through the land and they [a]depopulated it, and it became desolate so that no one would pass through it because of the animals, though these three men were in its midst, as I live,” declares the Lord God, “they could not save either their sons or their daughters. They alone would be saved, but the country would be desolate. Or if I were to bring a sword on that country and say, A sword is to pass through the country, and I eliminated human and animal life from it, even though these three men were in its midst, as I live,” declares the Lord God, “they could not save either their sons or their daughters, but they alone would be saved. Or if I were to send a plague against that country and pour out My wrath on it in blood to eliminate man and animal from it, even though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in its midst, as I live,” declares the Lord God, “they could not save either their son or their daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.”

Ezekiel 14:14-20

“Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy placelet the reader understandthen those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get things out of his house. And whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak” … “But about that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.”

Matthew 24:15-18 … 36-39
