it’s diabolical

how it can sneak up like that

out of the blue

one moment you’re enjoying bird-song, sun-filled sky

the scent of lilac on the breeze

the stream of water past your boat

the next moment

some how

it’s found you

again

and you realize

it had been stalking you

all along

hiding in the broad light of day

waiting

to pounce

on this unguarded moment
