The Squirrel

a coiled spring with claws

jitter-jumping clockwork toy

with twitchy-duster in back

slid up our back yard fence

just now, like a rubber ball

bounced across the top of it

peered as were a hungry spy

at our fresh-filled feeder and

grasping with a pirate's paw

filled its chests with treasure
