The Schedule

finally, after seventeen years

my courage stirred but shaky

I dared speak my life

a fearful man seeking guidance

un-concerned at last of others' thoughts

welcoming their correction

and was passed over

a slip of paper with a schedule

too hard a taskmaster

to allow even this diversion

within the courts of God

so close

yet so infinitely far
