February 1990

walking alone

in the dark of early night

this cold earth below

holding me up to the stars

and the moon

full and rising in the east

where lies my youth

that same light shining

upon the lawns wherein I played

distant in miles

and years

and mind

walking along

these thoughts in my mind

an abrupt iron rail

stops me

this rail, cold and still

my path from now to then

suddenly unleashed

my dreams furiously boil

I pray

turn

and head for my life

as I have chosen it

as God chose for me

and halfway back

a GO rumbles by

under the cold Toronto light

of a newly risen moon
