we live and living

know we also die

each instant of existence

but the

enjoyment of the gift

and the

deferment of its curse

to an ambiguous morrow

our entire lives a struggle

against an inevitable defeat

and yet

this most precious of gifts

this most incredible of all good gifts

is endangered

is in imminent threat

death stands too nearby

far too many would see it end

at their whim rather the will of God

they would end it before its time

before its had a chance to say its excited “Hello!”

before its had the time to say its final “Fare well!”
