Accents

I live in Tech. Support; tax software, mostly

(hello, AvanTax eForms)

I talk to a thousand people every season

some of them will talk like this

others of them will talk like that

it's all the same to me, they're all Canadian

but I grew up like that, my parents

all my aunts and all my uncles

(hello, Rhebergen clan)

mostly every one in any church I went to

(hello, Christian Reformed Church)

they all spoke in heavy northern European accents

and they were, all on hundred percent Canadian

after all their papers were signed, of course

so now an accent can tell me nothing

I often won't even notice it

shoot, my best friend even had a speech impediment

(hello, one who shall remain unnamed)

and I never even noticed it until many years later

after my wife told me that it was there

so an accent is just part of who a person is

like their smile, or the colour of their eyes

it can tell me nothing at all of where they've been
