Safely Held

I’m having a heart procedure on Wednesday

the arrhythmia has been getting worse

there is apparently some level of risk

(some, but less than the problem itself)

I could die

(again, less likely in one than the other)

the thought of that, dying, frightened me

after all, I am intimately connected to here

Wednesday’s nearness was scaring me

until this morning, in Church, singing of grace

and I knew, at last, however Wednesday goes

all will be well

my health will either improve, or be perfected

for whatever happens on Wednesday

I am, as are you,

safely held in the hand of God
