Remembrance Day, twenty-twenty-four

clock-watching, awaiting the moment

eleven o’clock nears, life slows, pauses

sombre reflection, gratitude - interrupted

untimely arrival of last week’s package

upsetting dogs unaware of significance

pandemonium overwhelms honour

yesterday creates today creates tomorrow

life will carry on until life no longer will

what these brave have fought to secure

the grateful going-on-ness of my little life

this great gift enthusiastically announced

as excitable pups bark at life’s going on
