Peter Falk was first and foremost

a man who loved a good joke

like Columbo loved a cigar

just watch

his first on-screen is always funny

his fumbling for his notebook

or his pencil

or some obscure object

stashed inside his rumpled coat

or more untidy paper bag

his inevitable turn-around to ask

“Just one more question …”
