I wonder if Peter and the others ever tried to say "I'm sorry"

to Jesus

said "I'm sorry for not understanding you as you spoke"

to Jesus

said "I'm sorry for not staying with you in the garden"

to Jesus

said "I'm sorry for not believing in you at the tomb"

to Jesus

said "I'm sorry for not knowing you on the road"

to Jesus

and

if they didn't say "I'm sorry" to Him, what might He have said

to them

might He have said "I knew you would know Me"

to them

might He have said "I knew you would believe in Me"

to them

might He have said "I knew you would come back to Me"

to them

might He have said "I knew you would understand who I Am"

to them

or perhaps

in their shamed silence

it would have happened like this

Jesus would have just left well enough alone

and by simply frying fish for them on a beach

show them forgiveness which knew no bounds
