Milo and Chester look hopefully up at me

they want me to take them out for a walk

"Please 'Dad'", they say, "take us for a walk"

(though we all know 'Dad' is a relationship

less due biology than some long ago words)

but I can't take them out, and I apologize

"Banks", I tell them, "won't let you boys in,

and I need to deposit these cheques today."

but they keep looking hopefully up at me

they have no comprehension of business

but they have seen a "No." turn to "Yes!"

and they live within this hopeful optimism
