Even Now? At Christmas?
even now on this holiest of all our days anguish, pain and terror assail
even now at this time of our Glorious Hope sorrow, fear and despair assault
even now regardless His blessed gift of Life darkness constant stalks our joy
and yet
even now confronted by our astounding hate His overwhelming Love consoles
The news is depressing today, hate, pain, death and anguish are far to present, are far too near.
“A mass stabbing in Taipei, Taiwan, leaves four people dead, including the perpetrator.” “Bangladeshi activist Osman Hadi is assassinated, triggering violent protests and arson.” “Filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, are found stabbed to death in their home.”
And I think “This? Even now? At Christmas?”
And then I remember, our pain is the full reason for His coming.
And I am comforted. For He has come!
