“Fly,” they cried, “Fly!”

“His wrath is not stayed!”

“Fly!”

I could not fly

nor would I fly

my feet, immobile, stayed

transfixed by His terrible wonder

I could not fly

nor would I fly

though His terrifying wrath

threatened my destruction

though His perfect holiness

scorned my imperfection

I could not fly

nor would I fly

for held within His perfect justice

my Hope

my sole and only Hope

Who, as were the lightning rod

drew His wrath upon Himself

Who, as were the brilliant sun

threw His holiness upon me

I could not fly

nor would I fly

once transfixed by His terrible wonder

I joyful fall upon His wonderful mercy

God be praised!

His wrath averted

by Love made pure

I am His, am His alone

Fly!
